Originally founded by Mark Fitchett as The Guitar School in Hermosa Beach, South Bay School of Music has grown into three music schools in the South Bay: South Bay School of Music in Redondo Beach, Long Beach School of Music, and Peninsula School of Music in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
The three music schools - serving over 600 students - are currently owned by Mark and his wife Lisa Kato. Both are active members of the Music Teachers' Association of California - South Bay Branch and Long Beach Branch.
Lisa has served as MTAC-Long Beach Branch Honors Recital Chairperson for several years, and currently oversees the piano program at the three schools. Lisa develops, markets and implements music programs such as the Fall Jazz Series and Classical Student Recital Series as well as teaching classical technique, repertoire, jazz theory and improvising to her own piano students.

Peninsula School of Music serves students from Rancho Palos Verdes, San Pedro, Rolling Hills Estates, Rolling Hills, Palos Verdes Estates, and Palos Verdes Peninsula.
